With the rise of the lighting industry and improvement of people's living standards,lights are no longer a simple lighting tool.Nowadays,lamps and lanterns have become popular in all walks of life,playing a variety of different roles,such as medical lights,decorative lights,industrial lights,stadium lights etc.
Of course,when the lamps are widely used,many problems about the lamps also begun to appear,such as heat dissipation,waterproof,IK protection,illuminance,beam angle,brightness,UGR etc.
Today we are going to talk about UGR.
What's the UGR?
The unified Glare Rating (UGR) predicts the glare caused by an electric lighting system along a psychometric scale of discomfort.
In simpler words,UGR predicts the amount of discomfort causing glare produced by a lighting installation for a fixed set of conditions.
(1) Discomfort glare can result in annoyance,headaches or eyestrain.
(2) Disability glare impacts the viewer's ability to discern objects accurately.
Discomfort glare is different from disability glare.So UGR is a measure of discomfort glare not disability glare.
UGR values generally range from 10 to 31.where a rating of 10 indicates no perceived discomfort and a rating of 31 indicates intolerable discomfort.The DLC's UGR thresholds range from 22 to 28,based on Primary Use Designation.
How to control the UGR to within the comfort value?
Generally,luminaires are composed of heat sink,power supply,PCB,LED,lens,glass etc. So in preliminary design,we can reduce and control UGR in the following ways:
1. Control the brightness of the LED
2. Control the brightness of luminaires
3. In the design of optics,putting away the excess light from LED as much as possible and make the luminous flux to achieve the highest
4. Anti-glare design on the lens of galss (as shown below)
